Skinology.Labs formulates around a simple test: does this ingredient change how skin looks, and can we describe that change honestly? Everything below is written to that standard.
Our formula philosophy
Most skincare ranges grow by addition. A new concern appears, a new bottle follows, and the routine gets longer while the results stay roughly the same. We would rather build fewer products and make each one carry more weight.
That means concentrating on ingredients with a clear cosmetic purpose, putting them into a format people will actually reach for, and being precise about what the result is. A balm that lives in a handbag and gets used twice a day will always outperform a serum that stays on a shelf.
5% Volufiline — the mechanism
Volufiline is the complex this balm is built around, and the number on the front of the pack. It is included for a visibly fuller, more cushioned-looking finish in the areas where it is applied.
One thing worth being precise about, because most brands are not. 5% Volufiline is not the same as 5% sarsasapogenin. Volufiline is a supplied ingredient blend — the active sits inside a carrier at a much lower concentration — so the 5% describes how much of that blend is in the formula, not how much of the active is. Anyone presenting the two as interchangeable is either guessing or hoping you will not ask.
We should also be straight about the evidence. Most of what exists for Volufiline comes from its manufacturer and associated patent work rather than independent peer-reviewed facial trials. That is normal for cosmetic actives. It is not the same thing as published clinical evidence, and we are not going to dress it up as one.
PDRN — the reason to believe
PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide, a polynucleotide ingredient that has become one of the most discussed additions to Korean skincare in recent years.
It has a genuine research base. In 2023, researchers from the Department of Dermatology at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital and the Hallym Institute for Translational Medicine tested PDRN directly on the two cell types that make up most of your skin. In fibroblasts, PDRN increased ERK signalling and raised collagen type I and III levels. In keratinocytes it did the reverse — damping ERK activity and reducing inflammatory markers including TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6.
That was laboratory work in cell culture. No finished cosmetic was tested.
More recently, topical PDRN has started to be studied on real skin. A 2026 study applied a low-molecular-weight PDRN derived from Paeonia lactiflora over four weeks. In an irritated-skin model, water loss through the skin fell by around 21% after two weeks; elasticity around the eye area improved by 4.25% at four weeks, though not yet at the two-week mark. It involved ten participants and a different PDRN to ours.
We include this because it is genuinely interesting, and we label it carefully because it is ingredient research — not evidence about this balm.

Collagen
Collagen is a skin-conditioning ingredient. Applied topically, it helps the surface of the skin feel supple and look firmer, and it contributes to the smooth, cushioned finish the balm is designed to leave.
We are careful here too. Topical collagen conditions the surface of skin. It is not the same as the collagen your skin produces structurally, and we do not suggest that a balm rebuilds it.
NAD+ and peptides
A renewal-focused blend included to support a brighter, more radiant-looking complexion. Peptides are among the most widely used actives in modern skincare, and NAD+ has become a point of real scientific interest.
We include them for how the finished formula makes skin look. We do not make cellular or metabolic claims for a topical cosmetic product.
How we talk about results
There are four different kinds of statement a skincare brand can make, and they are not interchangeable:

Cosmetic appearance claims. How skin looks after use. This is the language we use by default.

Ingredient claims. What an ingredient is understood to do, based on published work on the ingredient itself — usually in a laboratory, usually not in our formula.

Clinically substantiated claims. Results measured in a study on this specific finished formula. We do not have these yet. When we do, we will publish the method alongside the result.

Regulated claims. Statements such as SPF protection, which require specific testing and documentation before they can appear anywhere.
What we will not claim
We do not describe this product as clinically proven, dermatologist approved, medical-grade, as an alternative to any procedure, or as something that reverses ageing, removes wrinkles or acts on DNA. We do not use the word whitening. We do not publish before-and-after images we have not produced under consistent conditions, and we do not publish reviews we cannot match to a real order.
If a claim is not on this site, it is usually because we cannot yet stand behind it.
