What each one is for.

5% Volufiline

The mechanism

The plumping complex this balm is built around, and the number on the front of the pack. Included for a visibly fuller, more cushioned-looking finish exactly where you place it. On the ingredient list it appears under its INCI name, Anemarrhena Asphodeloides Root Extract.

A fuller, more cushioned look

PDRN

Reason to believe

A polynucleotide ingredient at the centre of modern Korean skincare, with a published research base in human skin cells. It appears on the ingredient list as Sodium DNA. Included to help skin look smoother, fresher and better rested.

Marine collagen

Conditioning

A skin-conditioning ingredient that helps the surface of the skin feel supple and look firmer. It conditions the surface — it does not rebuild the collagen your skin makes itself.

A suppler, firmer-looking surface

NAD+ and peptides

Renewal

A renewal-focused blend included to support a brighter, more radiant-looking complexion. On the list you will find it as Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, Nicotinamide Mononucleotide and Adenosine Triphosphate, alongside more than a dozen peptides.

Brighter, more radiant-looking skin

Ingredient descriptions refer to the appearance of skin. These are cosmetic claims and are not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition.

What 5% Volufiline actually means

Volufiline is a supplied ingredient blend, not a single molecule. The active inside it sits in a carrier at a much lower concentration. So 5% Volufiline describes how much of that blend is in this formula — not how much of the active sarsasapogenin is.

Most brands printing a percentage on a pack never explain this. We would rather you heard it from us. The number is real and it is on our carton; it just does not mean what a quick reading might suggest.

On evidence: most of what exists for Volufiline comes from its manufacturer and associated patent work rather than independent peer-reviewed facial trials. That is normal for cosmetic actives, but it is not the same as published clinical evidence and we are not going to present it as one.

Reading the list

Ingredients are listed using INCI names — the international naming standard — so that the same ingredient is recognisable on any product, anywhere. A few you may be looking for by another name: PDRN appears as Sodium DNA, Volufiline as Anemarrhena Asphodeloides Root Extract, and NAD+ as Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide.

Fragrance and sensitivity

This balm contains botanical oils that carry a natural scent — rose, geranium, ylang ylang and bergamot. It is not fragrance-free. If you have reactive skin or a known sensitivity to essential oils, read the list above and patch test on a small area before first use.

The formula also contains retinol. Retinol can increase the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. Use a broad-spectrum SPF during the day, introduce the balm gradually if your skin is new to retinol, and speak to your doctor before using a retinol product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

For external use only. Avoid direct contact with the eyes.

Formulations can change. The list on your carton is the definitive one for the balm you are holding.
